Acute stress disorder is a condition wherein you develop distressing symptoms (like flashbacks, nightmares, and intrusive thoughts) immediately after a traumatic event.In some cases, it is a precursor to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which can only be diagnosed one month after a stressful event. For other people, their acute stress disorder resolves within a month of the traumatic event.
